Come Back When You Can Stay Awhile

Jesus Talk

“This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.” Acts 1:11b

One of my most favorite things to do growing up was to visit my grandparents’ house. It seemed as though my grandma always knew exactly when we would arrive. Inevitably, she would be standing in the kitchen window and see us when we pulled into the driveway. Then, when we would leave, my grandma and grandpa would walk us out and then stand in the road waving to us as we drove away. My grandma would always say, “Come back when you can stay awhile.”

My grandma knew that my parents had to get back to work. My grandma knew that us kids needed to get back to school. But grandma also knew that she loved her family so much that she wanted them to be around as much as they could.

When Jesus ascended into Heaven, two angels reminded the apostles that they had a life they needed to tend to. I can just picture the apostles standing and looking up into the sky, similar to my grandma watching us drive away. The apostles didn’t want Jesus to leave.

My grandma didn’t want us to leave. The comfort was the fact that we would go visit her again as soon as we could. The comfort for the apostles was the fact that Jesus was going to come back in just the same way as He left.

Jesus is going to come back. This time, He’s gonna stay awhile!!

Although we don’t know the exact time of His arrival, we know that we need to be ready for His return.

Furthermore…

We need to help others be ready for Jesus’ return by sharing the good news of the cross!

“So he was reasoning in the synagogue with the Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles, and in the market place every day with those who happened to be present.” Acts 17:17
