“Draw me after you and let us run together!” Song of Solomon 1:4a

Fun, Laughter, and Lightheartedness can go a long way in your marriage!

I started reading a book in the last week in effort to grow a weakness of mine. If you know me very well, you would know that I tend to be pretty serious. Seriousness can be a really good thing. Raising a family and following Jesus are such serious matters that the results will last for eternity.

I tend to be serious about everything; even myself. Don’t laugh at me, but thanks to some mentors in my life, I have come to realize that I need to be willing to laugh at myself along with work at being lighthearted. (Ok, you can laugh at me, just don’t point and laugh) This doesn’t mean that I can’t or shouldn’t be serious. Life is serious. God is serious. Marriage is serious. Life, God, and Marriage are also, fun!

Our spouse (and our kids) need us to be so serious about him/her that we are willing to work at being lighthearted and have fun with them. Adrian Gostick said, “It turns out that fun is serious business.”

Husbands and wives, working at being lighthearted and fun with each other will lead to a relationship as described in the verse above! People enjoy being around others who are so serious about life that they work at being lighthearted and fun!

My encouragement for us this week: Laugh at yourself and plan a fun outing that both you and your spouse will enjoy together!

Have a great week!
