Hot Burning Fire!

Marriage and Family

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:8

Woodstove…check!   Firewood…check!   Kindling…check!   Paper…Check!   Matches…check!

This is the first time in my adult life that I have had a woodstove to heat my house. As we are getting closer to the cold season, I have taken some steps to be ready for heating my house. I had my son get the old ashes out of the wood stove. I bought a cord of wood from a guy in the neighborhood. And, I’ve got several boxes of matches!

The first attempt to build a fire was very discouraging.  It didn’t go. I put paper in there, some kindling, along with some bigger pieces of wood. It would stay lit for a little while and then go out.

The second attempt was much more successful! I only used paper and kindling that time. Once the fire was going pretty good with the kindling, I added some bigger pieces. That fire made the living area in our house hot! I discovered that the lever on the bottom of the stove must control some air flow because when it is pushed in the fire dies down and when it is pulled out the fire grows.

Needless to say, I’m still learning about my wood stove and how to have the best fire!

Building a fire is kinda like our relationship’s. If I want to have a strong relationship with my wife, I need to make sure I put the proper type and amount of fuel on the fire. If I want to have strong relationships with my boys, its works much the same way.

Putting time and energy into relationships help them grow into strong fires that don’t easily burn out!

In the next few days I need to cut some more kindling for the fires in my life…How about you?
